Safety & Care
The Forager is made for children aged five and up, to be used alongside an adult.
The kit contains real materials and one real tool, because we think children are capable of more than we often trust them with. Used with care and a grown-up nearby, everything in it is safe. Please take a moment to read this before your child dives in.
The palm drill is a real tool
It has no exposed blade and makes holes by twisting, but the tip is sharp enough to bite into wood, so it's for use with an adult beside your child. Always drill onto a flat, steady surface - never onto a hand or a lap. Full guidance is on the threading activity card.
Small parts
The kit contains small items and is not suitable for children under three, or for younger siblings who still put things in their mouths. Please keep it out of their reach.
The clay is non-toxic air-dry clay
It's for modelling, not eating, and hands are best washed after use. Safety data sheets are available on request.
The pressed leaves
The pressed leaves are common, non-toxic British species, pressed by hand. They're fragile and won't last a great deal of handling.
Outdoors
Part of the joy of this kit is using it outside. As always, a grown-up knows best whether a stick, a tree, or a patch of ground is safe for their own child. Wash hands after handling soil, berries, or anything found on a walk, and enjoy it together.
If you ever have a question about the kit or its contents, email us at hello@theoutdoorchildhood.co.uk. Take your time, and take care.
